This cam is located at the Inn of the Lost Coast and is so close to the shoreline that it is affected by the salt spray! What you see in the distance ARE mountains thrusting straight out of the surf; this is California's fabled "Lost Coast", part of the King Range National Conservation Area, 68,000 acres of rugged and remote wilderness with miles of stunning hiking trails. This is also a favored surfing area. You may be fortunate and spot a whale on this or on the Sunset Cam located in the same area. This cam image was chosen as one of EarthCam's Top 10 Cams for July 2011, beating out thousands of national and international nominations. This image is keeping excellent company with cam images from the Mediterranean, France, Greece and the Virgin Islands.
